Company Overview
After touring the devastation, the partners of Veerhouse Voda were struck by the fact that the impact of the disaster could have been lessened by the use of proper construction material and building techniques using conventional building standards. The consortium believes that it can make an immediate difference in the lives of the people of Haiti by providing high quality housing, construction materials and employment to those displaced while simultaneously lessening impact of future disaster.
The partners at Veerhouse Voda will implement the Veerhouse building system – a Eurocode certified environmentally sustainable, low cost building system that is 5 times faster than traditional construction methods. With its intention to create thousands of permanent houses in 3 to 5 years, the partners will build a factory in Haiti that provides EPS, Steel and Mortar needed for the system. There are 5 operational factories worldwide with an additional 2 set to go online by 2012. This system is being used on Europe, Asia, Africa and South America with orders for more than 18,000 individual homes, and thousands of square meters of industrial parks, schools, hospitals, schools and other commercial property.
The primary goals of Veerhouse Voda are:
The unique points of the Veerhouse Building System are its earthquake and hurricane resistance and eco friendly nature. All manufacturing of materials and pre-site fabrication will be done in factories built in Haiti providing various benefits to the local population. The total production time of a 50 m² house is less than 5 days. This building period includes plumbing, electricity, kitchen and sanitation.
Veerhouse Voda factories provide significant benefit to the people and country of Haiti by utilizing local labor pools and providing skilled and unskilled employment with the hope of achieving the UN Millenium development goals. Additionally Veerhouse Voda expects to create growth of ancillary building sectors such as windows, doors, kitchen, bathroom, plumbing and electrical materials.

Most of the Haitian housing exposition consist of foreign-build designs: like this yellow house designed by Veerhuis-Voda, of New York, and based on a Dutch model
Rebuilding Haiti: Houses for Haiti’s homeless The design presented by New York-based Veerhuis-Voda, using a model invented in Holland, was typical of the better-looking homes, with polystyrene walls a foot thick and a good cross-breeze from the large
The steel frames and walls of the two-bedroom house were erected on a cement slab by a half a dozen workers in four days and residents could move in within a week once the plaster was applied, managing director Channa Perera of New York City said.
The house has a 1,000-litre water tank and a $1,500
The 620-square-foot house (about the same size as a one-bedroom condo in Montreal) would sell for about $20,000, Perera said. If Veerhuis-Voda wins a contract, it would build a factory in Haiti to make the materials locally to build 6,000 houses annually and avoid shipping costs and delays at Haiti’s bureaucratic and often corrupt customs. (Almost all exhibitors suffered waits of weeks or months at customs, despite the fact they were shipping to a government-run exposition.)
